Making the Most of the Daylight

As we leave behind the short days of Winter, we look forward to balmy spring days and extra daylight hours. Those extra few hours are an absolute bonus – more light in the evening means more time to spend with loved ones or get productive! Did someone say spring clean!?

But until we get those clocks ticking over, we still have a few weeks of extra light in the morning. Here at Henderson’s, we’re big fans of getting up early and making the most of the day! Read on to find out our top ways to make the most of the daylight.

Get An Early Night

Okay, so this might sound a bit counterproductive for making the most of daylight… after all, isn’t going to bed early cutting the day short?

Well – yes and no.

While an early night might prevent you from binge-watching the latest Netflix series, the truth is that most of us won’t use those late-night hours to be productive. By all means, take some time to unwind with a book or watch an episode of your favourite show. But try to turn it off at a decent time so you can make the most of the next day ahead!

Getting early nights now will also save your bacon when it comes time to put the clock forward and you lose that hour of sleep!

Start the Day Right

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: breakfast is the most important meal of the day! As the first food that will enter your body for the day, it’s not only the incentive to get out of bed, it’s also going to set the tone for the day ahead.

Check out our article Five Tips to Start Your Day Right for some great ideas on getting the day off to a good start. Spoiler alert – there is bacon involved!

On weekends we love a chilled-out morning with a classic bacon butty or a full big breakfast. We even like indulging in some tasty two-pan French toastfrom time to time!

Enjoy that brekky in the sunshine, soaking up those daylight hours.

Check Off Those Chores

Spring cleaning is a thing for a reason. With the sun starting to show its face, it’s the perfect time to get around to that outdoor maintenance, tick off those lists, and make plans for getting stuff done! So open up your windows, let the fresh air in, and prepare to be productive!

Those extra hours are the perfect time to water blast decks, give bathrooms a good scrub, clean clogged gutters and get around to all those jobs you said you’d do in Springtime.

Embrace Your Green Thumb

If you’re lucky enough to have a veggie garden (or flower garden, or any garden for that matter!), Spring is the perfect time to start thinking about what to plant. The weather’s warm and fine, but it’s not so hot that your poor baby plants will wither – winning!

Once early summer rolls around, your veg garden will be up and running – ready and waiting to create yummy dishes like our Bacon and Asparagus Summer Salad or make tasty additions to your Summer Platter.

Enjoy the Great Outdoors

No one wants to head outside when it’s dreary and rainy. But as the weather warms up and the sun peaks out from behind the clouds, the excuses for staying inside get fewer and fewer.

Embrace that itch to get outside! Use your extra daylight hours to take a hike, do some yoga outdoors, or even spend some time lying in the sunshine. You’ll boost your Vitamin D and have a blimmin’ great time outdoors.

Experiment in the Kitchen

Turn your favourite tunes up, find a new recipe and put those extra daylight hours to some seriously good use by getting experimental in your kitchen!

It’s no secret that we love our food here at Henderson’s. So it’s probably no surprise that we also love hanging out in the kitchen and trying out new recipes. If you’re looking for some kitchen inspo, check out our Recipes for plenty of great ideas.

Spend Time With People

The winter days can feel super short. You might become a bit of a hermit if you're anything like us. Why leave the house when you can cosy up at home in your pyjamas?!

Now that the days are getting longer, it’s a great time to end your self-imposed isolation and schedule some catch-ups with the ones you love. Socialising has huge benefits – from a renewed sense of purpose and belonging to improved self-esteem.

Look for opportunities to catch up with friends over some good food (we’re loving this BLT Dip), join a club or find new ways to be around people.

There’s no better way to spend those extra few hours than by connecting with people who make your life richer!
